      1. I called La Verna Lodge in April 2015 looking for an inpatient rehab for my sister who had recently relapsed after 6 months of sobriety. She has a 25 year alcohol problem with considerable mental health issues. I specifically asked the clinical director if they were equipped to handle the mental health side of things after describing in great detail what is torturing my sister mentally. The director “assured me” that their facility and their staff were up to the task. I honestly felt my prayers were finally going to be answered. Well….

I have had my sister at Pine Grove Women’s Center in Hattiesburg, MS for 90 days and their program makes Laverna Lodge look like a complete joke. My sister spent the entire 3 months in a room by herself and was allowed to isolate for lack of much else to do. She was allowed to have her cell phone and make un-monitored calls at will. Most of you who are familiar with treatment programs will know this is a definite mistake. Unlimited phone usage is a huge distraction and allows the addict to vent every night to family or other versus spending time actually working a program. I’m glad my sister never has done drugs because for all the staff knows, for lack of phone supervision, a drug addict could be talking to their dealer! Or an abusive spouse or other unhealthy person that the addict needs to stay away from to succeed in their recovery.

My sister left that place in much, much worse shape than when she went in as a result of the isolating and lack of any 12 step programming whatsoever. This is not a 12 step program. All they did was “drop off” the residents at 12 step meetings — didn’t even go in with them!!! My sister degraded so bad while she was there that she went back to cutting and suicidal ideation. She is now in the hospital for a suicide attempt.

PLEASE, do not consider La Verna Lodge if you have a loved one that you can’t afford to make a treatment decision mistake. Consider a reputable program that at least has some real structure and meat to it. La Verna Lodge is nothing more than a cushy place to basically “hang out” for $10K a month. And don’t believe they are dual-diagnosis for a minute!!
